Game Instructions: House of Jokers

Players: 3–5
Equipment: A standard deck (52 cards) and 2 or 3 jokers.

1. Setup

• The Start: All four sevens are placed in the center of the board to start the four suit-sequences.
• Deal: The remaining cards are dealt evenly to all players. This is your hidden hand.
• Action Cards: Each player selects cards from their hand and places them in front of them. These are your action cards. The number of cards depends on the difficulty (Easy: 4, Normal: 3, Hard: 2).
• The Reveal: Once everyone has chosen, all action cards are revealed simultaneously.
• Starting Player: The player with the most cards left in their hidden hand begins the game.

2. Objective

• Victory: The group wins when all 52 cards are placed in complete sequences (Ace to King) for all four suits.
• Defeat: The group loses if a player needs to take a penalty but has no face-up action cards left to turn face-down.

3. How to Play

Play proceeds clockwise. If you have a valid move, you must act. Choose one of the following options:

Option A: Play a Card

• Play an action card that fits the sequence on the board (e.g., a 6 or 8 on a 7).
• Face-down cards: Face-down action cards are temporarily revealed to you on your turn, so you can play them normally. However, they remain hidden from your teammates!
• Locking the Suit: When an Ace or King is played, that side of the sequence is closed.
• Extra Turn: If you play an Ace or King, and you still have at least one valid action card that can be played, you get an extra turn immediately!
• Refilling: After playing a card, take a new one from your hand to fill the empty slot. If you played a face-up card, the new one is placed face-up. If you played a face-down card, the new one is placed face-down.

Option B: Move a Joker

• Movement: A joker can be moved to any open end of a sequence using any of your action cards. It cannot be placed on a closed (Ace/King) side. You can move a joker onto a Seven only when the Seven is completed (its sides have reached the Ace and King, respectively) to eliminate the joker permanently.

4. Penalties & Mercy Rule

• The Penalty: If you don't have a valid move, you must flip one of your face-up action cards face-down. This makes it harder for your team to plan ahead.
• Mercy Rule: If you are completely blocked and all your action cards are already face-down, you have no cards left to pay the penalty with. The game is instantly lost for everyone!

5. Laws of the Jokers

• Blocking: No card can be played on a slot occupied by a joker.
• Initial Placement: The first cards played (up to the number of jokers in the game) automatically receive a joker.
